Reading a Vekuva story card

Published

From the Vekuva team

Written by the people who build Vekuva. Not news, and not analysed.

A story card is the short block you see for each story in the feed, in a section and in search. Every line on it is either the outlet's own words or a label that says what we added. Read it from the top.

The card, line by line

  1. Place and section. The first small line names where the story is about and the section it sits in, such as Politics or Business.
  2. The headline. This is the outlet's own headline, unedited. We do not rewrite headlines, because how an outlet frames a story is the thing we measure.
  3. AI summary. Under the headline there is a short summary that starts with the words "AI summary". A model wrote it, not a person and not the outlet. The label links to how our AI summaries are written and checked. When the headline is in Telugu, a second line can give an English summary, with the same label.
  4. Outlet and time. The next line names the outlet that published the story and when it did. If you have opened the story before, the line starts with "Read".
  5. How many outlets covered it. A line such as "N outlets" counts the outlets whose coverage of this story we have found. When too few outlets have covered a story to compare their coverage, the line says "so far" instead of showing a comparison. When the story is still waiting for its analysis, the line adds "analysis queued".
  6. "Leans" and a party name. A tag such as "Leans" followed by a party appears only when our model estimates that the coverage leans towards a party. It is an estimate about the coverage, never about the party or its voters. No tag means no party was estimated to lead, not that the story was checked and found balanced. How party alignment is estimated.

Cards that carry no measurement

  • "Not analysed for framing". We chose not to run our analysis on this story: for example, it is from a section we do not measure, its text is very short, or it is an English story that names neither Andhra Pradesh nor Telangana. You still get the headline, the outlet, the time and a link to the full story at the outlet.
  • "Entertainment — not analysed for political framing". Film and entertainment stories are shown but not measured for party alignment.
  • "Sponsored". A card marked Sponsored is paid placement. It is labelled on the card and is not measured.

Where to go next

Tap the headline to open the story page. It shows the full analysis: the summary, the party-alignment estimate with its confidence, and the quotes each reading is based on, beside a short excerpt from the outlet and a link to read the full story there.
