Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will participate in the party's public outreach campaign, "Goy Rakhon Yatra", in Goa on Sunday and address a public meeting in Margao. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar told PTI on Saturday that the public meeting will mark the conclusion of the 28-day-long yatra.
The yatra, which began on September 22, covers all 40 assembly constituencies in the coastal state. The Congress has projected the campaign as a movement to safeguard Goa's land, identity, environment and cultural heritage, while reaching out to people across the state.
Goa Forward Party chief and MLA Vijai Sardesai on Saturday alleged that Nepalese nationals had been added to Goa's electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision exercise, news agency Press Trust of India reported. He demanded an impartial and time-bound investigation into the alleged irregularities.
Sardesai claimed that some "invisible" voters had been added to the electoral rolls while eligible voters found their names missing. "Nepalese nationals have been added as voters in Goa during the SIR exercise. How can any foreign national be a part of India's electoral roll?" he asked at a press conference in Panaji.
