When does Vekuva update?

Published

From the Vekuva team

Written by the people who build Vekuva. Not news, and not analysed.

Vekuva does not update the moment an outlet publishes. New stories are collected, and analysed, in scheduled runs. This page gives the schedule as our server is configured to run it. The times below are read from that configuration each time this page is built, so they cannot drift from it.

New stories and analysis
Our server asks for a new run every 10 minutes, and a run is accepted at most once every 50 minutes. So newly analysed stories arrive no more often than about once an hour, and often later: each run analyses a limited number of stories, and a story that misses one run waits for the next.
Social posts
Scheduled for 08:05, 13:05 and 19:05 IST each day. If the server is down at one of those times, the post goes out when it is back, up to 60 minutes late; after that, that slot is skipped.
Daily internal check
08:30 IST. An internal compliance check. It does not change anything you read.

What this means when you read the feed

  1. A new story can appear before its analysis. Its card then says "analysis queued". The analysis is added by a later run.
  2. About an hour is the shortest wait, not a promise. Runs are limited in how many stories they analyse, so on a busy news day some stories wait more than one run.
  3. Some stories are never analysed, on purpose. A card that says "Not analysed for framing" is not waiting for a later run. Reading a Vekuva story card explains which stories those are.
  4. A run can be late or missed. When one is, the next run picks the stories up. Our status page says whether stories and analysis are up to date, and as of when.
